EMBRACE Trial
The University of Melbourne invites people with a recent ACL rupture to take part in a new study. The EMBRACE Study will compare ACL reconstruction surgery with a new bracing treatment that aims to health the ACL.
Do you treat patients with ACL injury?
The Centre for Health, Exercise & Sports Medicine is conducting the EMBRACE Study, a research project aimed at comparing two treatment approaches for complete ACL rupture:
Cross Bracing Protocol (CBP): A non-surgical method involving a knee brace and structured rehabilitation to promote healing of the ligament.
ACL Reconstruction Surgery: Early reconstruction surgery, followed by rehabilitation.
This study seeks to compare the two approaches in terms of knee function, pain, symptoms and quality of life.
Your patient may be eligible to participate if they:
Are between 16 and 40 years old.
Have sustained a primary and acute ACL rupture within the past 15 days.
Are at least moderately active (before their ACL injury)
Are located in or around:
Melbourne, Ballarat
Sydney, Central Coast, Wollongong
Brisbane, Gold Coast
Perth
Are open to being assigned to either treatment group as part of the study.
Participants will receive comprehensive support, including care from leading medical professionals, physiotherapy consultations for 12 months, and necessary equipment.
Please direct any potential participants to: www.embracestudy.com.au and please mention this study to any colleagues who may see suitable patients! If your clinic is interested in displaying a study poster, please contact embrace-study@unimelb.edu.au to request a mailout.
